Converse Winter Weather: E-Learning on January 10, 2025
The Emergency Preparedness Team has been monitoring weather conditions as Spartanburg is likely to see precipitation and below-freezing temperatures beginning late Friday morning, January 10. The safety of our university community is our first priority. Therefore, in an abundance of caution, Converse will have an e-learning day on Friday.
Essential employees should report to work to perform their duties if it is safe to do so, and non-essential staff should plan to work remotely. In both instances, staff should communicate directly with their supervisors as needed. As with any inclement weather conditions, use your best judgment when traveling to and on campus, and do not venture out if you feel it is unsafe for you to do so.
Dining Services
In anticipation of potential ice and snow, Freshens will close after Friday’s lunch service and be closed through Saturday. Gee Dining Hall will close at 6 p.m. Friday. We anticipate that Gee will reopen at 11 a.m. Saturday, with normal operations throughout the weekend. In addition, Valkyrie Supply (located in Montgomery) is well-stocked should students need additional options.
Library
The library will close Friday at 6 p.m. and will remain closed on Saturday. The library will reopen at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Athletics
Converse has cancelled the swim meet scheduled for Saturday and no other athletic events are scheduled. All athletic activities, including practices, are prohibited from 12 p.m. on Friday until 12 p.m. on Saturday and again from 5 p.m. on Saturday until 2 p.m. on Sunday. Student-athletes should check with their coaches regarding practice schedules.
Campus Safety & Precautions
Roebuck and our Facilities staff have been applying ice melt/salt across campus and will start scraping high-traffic walkways and main campus roads on Saturday morning. As a reminder, with freezing temperatures overnight, there may be icy and slick spots, so please use extra caution on roads, sidewalks, and in parking lots. For residential students, in case of power outages on campus during this time, please keep in close contact with your residential life staff for next steps and procedures.
Normal Operations Anticipated for Monday
We anticipate returning to normal campus operations on Monday morning, January 13. The Emergency Preparedness Team will continue to monitor weather and road conditions, and we will keep you informed should anything change.
Updates will be sent via the AlertMedia mobile safety app and by email and will be posted at lzrh.gregorybgallagher.com/winter25. If you have not signed up to receive communications from the AlertMedia app, more information on how to opt in for alerts is on this my.converse page.
